Kelsey Raine is a watercolor artist based in Stoughton, Wisconsin, whose practice explores the physical and emotional connections between humanity and the natural world. Combining layered washes, shifting transparencies, and organic subjects, Raine reflects on metaphors and connections of human emotion and experience mirrored in the natural world.
With a deep appreciation for watercolor, Raine embraces the medium’s fluid unpredictability and natural tendencies as a foundation for figurative elements that evoke themes of fear, challenge, and vulnerability. Her paintings capture our relationship to nature, revealing the animalistic tendencies of humans and the anthropomorphic traits of animals.
