Nick Vreeland, as NV Woodshop, is a Madison, Wisconsin-based woodworker using a simple premise: let the natural wood grain shine. What began as a COVID-era build of an Adirondack chair grew into a full-fledged small business creating handcrafted games like cribbage and mancala, cutting boards, kitchenware, home décor, and specialty pieces like whiskey smokers.

Every piece starts with the wood itself. Rather than forcing a design onto a board, Nick works with each piece's natural grain, figure, and character — choosing cuts and finishes that highlight what makes that piece of wood unique. The result is functional work meant for everyday use: cutting boards that live on your counter and are used, or games pulled out for family game night.

The shop blends modern CNC and laser technology with traditional woodworking. A CNC router and laser engraver allow for precise work, custom engraving, and repeatable detail that would be difficult to achieve by hand alone — but the designs, wood selection, and final finishing remain a hands-on, personal process from start to finish.

NV Woodshop sells through its website, at local art and craft fairs around the Madison area, and through select wholesale and consignment partnerships. Custom and commissioned pieces are taken on when a project sparks interest.
